Some comments from the judges ...Full Chorus: Dixit Dominus and St Nicholas MassExcellent presentation. Just a little reticent in general projection. Piano CAN sound warm and colourful. More initial consonants would help. Women’s song: All my TrialsA lovely solo and an appealing choral tone too, the phrasing expressively moulded. I enjoyed the strong contrasts – the loud singing without loss of quality too. Intonation was not entirely centred at times but the overall impression was musical and convincing Men’s song: The Hunters’ chorusLively and cheerful and characterful as a performance. But you were rather score based – you really need to be less shy! The last chord showed what you can do. You could use the consonants more as a rhythmic device – but splendidly done. Madrigal: Fire fire!A good confident opening. Watch for the phrase endings and make them more unanimous. Second section was well-shaped. Hungarian Folk songsA steady opening. You were well together almost always. Articulation was very neat. Tenor and bass well done with plenty of attack. Watch the breathing and make sure you make a unilateral rit. Thank you, an enjoyable performance which has been well prepared. Own choice: White flowering daysThis is such a good song to perform – a challenge but well worth it. I wonder if the pace was rather slow to capture the forward momentum of the piece sufficiently. A great challenge for unaccompanied singing. You captured so much of the intention of this song, now try and sing with conviction and relish the harmonies and the interplay of the parts. |
