HCS sing for VE Day
Horsley Choral Society joined the VE Day celebrations organised by West Horsley Parish Council at West Horsley Place on VE Day, the 8th May.
HCS singers lead by director Val Beynon accompanied by Matthew Rickard led the crowd in rousing choruses of war time favourites, We’ll Meet Again and There’ll be Bluebirds Over teh White Cliffs of Dover.
Following a proclamation read on behalf of the King, Dame Mary Cresswell, Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Surrey delivered a rousing speech and then moved to light the commemorative beacon, one of many such beacons lit in commemoration Of VE Day the length and breadth of the country.
As the beacon flared into the darkening night sky HCS were again centre stage leading the crowd to the patriotic strains of ‘ I vow to thee my country’
HCS Chair, Gill Walker commented, “What a great evening it was too, so well organised by West Horsley Parish Council and West Horsley Place in such wonderful surroundings”.
