Horsley Choral Society's Chirstmas concernt, the first under new Musical Director, Elspeth Wyllie was not only a terrific musical success but also raised an impressive £979 for its chosen charity, the Momentum Children's Charity.

Tara Sherjan, the Head of Fundraising at the charity said, "The generosity of the congregation and the choir will make a real difference to the families we support, bringing comport and joy at a time of year that can be especially difficult.

The concert, conducted by Elspeth Wyllie,  included Ave Maris Stella by Monteverdi, two version of Ave Maria by both Stravinsky and Robert Dett and Ralph Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols with, of course, an opportunity for the congregation to join in a selection of traditional Chritmas favourites. The Choir were joined by Baritone Soloist George Salmon and accompanied on both piano and organ by Matthew Rickard.

HCS was also itself the grateful recipient of charitable support when the HR Taylor Trust awarded the Society £2000 to support its activity. HCS Chair, John Stone commented, "We were delighted to receive this invaluable financial support and extremely grateful to the HR Taylor Trust for the award. Particularly since Covid it has been difficult to sustain live music in many settings and large scale choirs such as our own are no exception to this. The grant from the Trust and the ongoing support from our members and audiences will ensure that we will continue to provide high quality choral music for the forseeable future."
