Horsley Choral’s summer concert, “From Screen Stage”  held at East Horsley Village Hall on Sunday 22nd June was a complete sell out. The concert programme, put together by HCS Music Director, Elspeth Wyllie, was made up of music which had featured on TV, Film and Stage Shows.

Numbers performed included O Fortuna from Carmina Burana (remember the Old Spice commercial), Nessun Dorma (the 1990 World Cup), What a Wonderful World ( Good Morning Vietnam) and the setting of Psalm 23 from the Vicar of Dibley.

This was HCS’s first concert in Horsley for some time and the music and slogan ‘HCS is coming home’ was enthusiastically welcome by a packed hall on a very warm summer evening.

In a first for HCS the choir was joined by the St Lawrence Chobham Handbell Ringers who added a touch of sparkle to the proceedings.

Unfortunately Musical Director, Elspeth was unwell but her place was taken by guest conductor Sarah Blythe Shapiro who took on the complex task of directing an extensive and varied programme with only a couple of weeks to go. Accompanist Matthew Richard ensured that the singing rested on secure musical foundations.

HCS is now into its summer break but will be back next term on the 7th September with a ‘Come and Sing’ to which everyone is welcome to come see if the fun and camaraderie of choral singing is for them. More details on the website at www.horsleychoralsociety.com
